Giacomo Manzù - Rome
The tomb of the president Alcide De Gasperi is located on the front porch of the Basilica di San Lorenzo out of Mura in Rome, and was made by Giacomo Manzù in 1954. The stone used for the funeral monument is Red Ammonitico Veronese, with the tipical color which can range from pink to pale or purplish red, with various intermediate shades. Our restoration intervention, in addition to the funerary monument of President De Gasperi, also involved the marble epigraphs present in the northern and southern walls, the pair of marble lions on the sides of the entrance portal to the Basilica and the funeral monument with small columns in the southern wall, from the Middle Ages.(Photo P.
