Jacopino del Conte - Rome

The Saint Remis Chapel in the Church of Saint Louis of the French in Rome contains an altar framework is attributed to Jacopino del Conte and is dated 1547. It depicts the “Baptism of Clovis". Faulty anchoring to the wall prevented natural motions of boards, thereby distorting them. This led to the lifting and, in some cases, the detachment of the pictorial layer. The colouring of the panel had also been affected by previous interventions, which resulted in a uniformly faded varnish layer. Our intervention included repairing both the wooden structure and restoring the painted surface.
